Privacy Policy
LearnSomethin sends one daily learning email at 9:00 AM Eastern Time to subscribers who explicitly opt in. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over your information.
This policy applies worldwide to https://learnsomethin.com (the “Site”) and the LearnSomethin email service (the “Service”).
Who we are
LearnSomethin is operated from India by an individual publisher trading under the name “LearnSomethin.” The Service is offered worldwide and we welcome subscribers from any country where receiving email from outside your jurisdiction is lawful for you.
Contact for any privacy-related question or request: hello@learnsomethin.com.
What we collect
We only collect what is necessary to deliver the daily email and let you control your subscription.
- Your email address — provided when you sign up. Used to send the confirmation email and, after you confirm, each daily topic.
- Signup and confirmation timestamps — to support our double opt-in flow and the 7-day expiry of confirmation links.
- Delivery, open, and rating events — when our delivery provider (AWS SES) successfully delivers an email, when your mail client loads the open-tracking pixel, and when you tap the 👍 / 👎 buttons or the one-click unsubscribe link. We record the timestamp and which topic the event relates to. We do not record your User-Agent, IP address, or geographic location.
- Bounce and complaint events — if our delivery provider reports that your address bounced permanently or was flagged as spam, we record the event and automatically remove your address from future sends.
- Signup attribution — when you sign up, we record the HTTP referrer URL of the page you came from (if your browser sent one) and any utm_* campaign tags present on the landing URL. This tells us which channels bring subscribers so we know what works. It is not used to personalize emails to you and is never linked back to your browsing behavior.
We do not collect: your name, age, payment information, browsing behavior on the Site, your IP address, or any data from third-party tracking pixels. We embed no third-party trackers or ad networks anywhere on the Site or in the email.
Why we collect it
- To deliver the Service you signed up for (legal basis: your consent at double opt-in)
- To diagnose delivery failures and protect our sending reputation (legal basis: legitimate interest)
- To measure topic quality in aggregate so we can improve it (legal basis: legitimate interest)
Who we share it with
We share data only with the service providers we need to operate the Service. We do not sell or rent your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it to train AI models.
| Processor | Purpose | Region |
|---|---|---|
| Vercel | Web hosting, request routing | Global edge, primary US |
| Supabase | Database storage | US (us-east-1) |
| Amazon Web Services | Email delivery (SES) and event notifications (SNS) | US (us-east-1) |
| OpenAI | Topic generation only — subscriber data is never sent to OpenAI | US |
International transfers
Your email address and the engagement events tied to it are stored and processed on infrastructure located in the United States. If you reside outside the United States — including in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, India, Brazil, California, or anywhere else — your data crosses borders when we send you mail and when our event-tracking pipeline runs.
We rely on your explicit consent at double opt-in as the legal mechanism for that transfer, alongside the standard contractual and security commitments each of our processors maintains. If you would prefer that we not process your data outside your jurisdiction, the right answer is to not subscribe.
How long we keep it
- Active subscribers: for as long as you remain subscribed.
- Unsubscribed addresses: indefinitely, in a suppressed state, so we never accidentally re-mail you and so that a third party cannot re-subscribe your address against your will.
- Engagement records (opens, ratings): associated with your account for as long as you’re a subscriber. After full account deletion (see below), aggregate counts may persist with no link to your address.
Your rights
No matter where you are in the world, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Correct — request correction of any inaccurate data
- Erase — request deletion of your account and associated records
- Withdraw consent — unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email
- Port your data — receive your data in a portable, machine-readable format
- Object — object to specific processing purposes
- Lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@learnsomethin.com. We respond within 30 days.
EU and UK readers
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation and the UK General Data Protection Regulation, the rights above are statutory. You may also lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority — for EU residents that is your national DPA, and for UK residents the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
California residents
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), you have the right to know what personal information we have collected, to request deletion, to opt out of any sale of personal information (we do not sell), and to non-discrimination for exercising these rights.
India readers
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the rights of access, correction, erasure, and grievance redressal. Our grievance officer is reachable at the contact email above and responds within 30 days.
Children
The Service is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a child has subscribed, email us and we will remove the address.
Security
We store data on infrastructure that uses industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to subscriber data is restricted to the operator. No system is perfectly secure; if we ever discover a breach affecting your data we will notify you in the daily email and, where required by law, your data-protection authority.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will notify subscribers via the daily email at least 30 days before the change takes effect. The effective date at the top of this page always reflects the latest version.
